Brand new ish…

5 04 2010

So it has finally landed, Floating Points has dropped the double sided press of Peoples Potential and Shark Chase.

The once-upon-a-time SpaceBass crew member has come with a different sound to the previous fps releases and one that we particularly like. Peoples Potential goes acid and Shark Chase is a monster, driving house record, complete with its own dance the Shark Chase skank, put your fins up!!

Check it here:

>SHARK CHASE<

And you can also hear it in the mix in liamski’s most recent SB podcast, here:

LIAMSKI

HOUSE and Ting – New Mix!!

3 04 2010

liamski has been busy on the wheels and turned out a wicked house themed mix, I’ll let him do the talking:

‘Yes yes – a new SpaceBass Podcast, and we’re taking it down a house strasse.
Been meaning to put together a mix of my favourite new & old house stuff for a while, and after I nabbed a copy of Floating Points’ “Shark Chase” at the weekend, I had to get on with it. The mix covers the best of European and US trax, straddling jackin, minimal and techno… hence the ‘ting’ in the title. Loads of variety and ideal party music. Hope you enjoy and feedback welcome! x’

I recommend it highly, cheers yo, ctop.

Next Party – 93 Feet East – FREE Fridays

12 09 2009
Free Fridays

Free Fridays

So, we’ve been invited back to 93 Feet East for another Friday session. The last one had people dancing on tables in a Caligulean dance orgy (well, nearly) and we’re very much looking forward to more of the same in the aptly named Pink Bar.

The night runs from 8pm till 1am and those five hours are set to be jam-packed with great music from past and present, maybe even some frome the future(beats) too! Add to that the fact that the main live room has four different live acts on and it’s hard to say no, especially when it’s free, nada, zilch, entrée libre, zollfreie Einfuhr etc….

See you there. 😉

“Naha City Block Party

Greetings from the sub-tropical outpost of the Nippon motherland! Liam from Space Bass asked me to knock up a little funk and boogie blend; and that’s what I’ve put together, well almost ! Mixed live and raw from original vinyl on my Bozak rotary without the benefits (?) of EQ and FX, this is a one-time mix, unplanned with all the joy and serendipity of spontaneous selection. So there’s the odd bump and flam along the way.

Much as my heart belongs to jazz, I grew up dancing to music like this, which is why it’s been my pleasure to have been doing the Inspiration Information sessions for the last dozen years or so. The tunes range from the electro tinged Afrobeat of African Connexion and King Sunny Ade, through Larry Levan’s dub of Smokey to straight up boogie classics from Fresh Band and Pleasure, and not forgetting the Italian connection from Firefly the mighty Change ( Paradise is one of many written and arranged by the awesome team of producer Mauro Malavasi and bassist Davide Romani, BB+Q’s Starlette being another). There’s proto-house from Serious Intention, a little Jamaican funk from Richard Ace, and a wonderfully warped mélange of slap bass and heavy claps to start things rolling with The Pied Piper of Funkingham, dropping the tempo at the end for a fairly obscure 12’ only release from Lesette Wilson. Hope you enjoy!
